We can now say that the spring migration is over.
Taking our lot in Stoke (which is a stop on the hummingbirds' migration route) as a reference, the number of sightings was about 30% lower this year.
In 2007, we captured 168 hummingbirds between the beginning of May and June 15. This year, only 119 entered our traps in similar capture efforts over the same period.
So what's happened since our last rendezvous in September 2007? They must be running into lots of problems on their long migration route!
We'll leave them in peace now until late July, so they can get down to their usual business of raising their tiny families!
